The new 2013 Volkswagen Beetle has more aggressive and masculine styling and the
Turbo model has the muscle to back it up. This model has an overall sport
package, not just a turbo engine in place of the base models 2.5L five-cylinder.
This model features a new suspension setup with upgraded anti-roll bars front
and rear. While the base model uses a torsion beam setup, the Turbo uses an
independent setup similar to the Jetta GLI and GTI. The Beetle Turbo also
utilizes Volkswagen’s XDS electronic limited slip differential. The Turbo model
(as well as the TDI model) gets additional gauges mounted on the dash to show
oil temperature, turbo boost, and a clock with a stop watch function.
Volkswagen’s new styling suggests they would like to make the Beetle appeal more
to a Male demographic. This could be the model to shake the “Chick Car”
reputation of the Beetle.
Performance
The 2013 Volkswagen Beetle Turbo is powered
by a turbocharged and inter-cooled 2.0L four-cylinder that features direct fuel
injection. This engine produces 200 horsepower and 207 lb-ft of torque. The 2013
Beetle Turbo can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in the mid-six second range. The
Beetle Turbo is quick, fun and still manages 21 city mpg and 30 highway mpg. The
2.0 L turbo four-cylinder is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox or optional
six-speed DSG automatic.
